Pine Mountain Community Development Corporation (PMCDC) is a multi-bank community development corporation whose mission is to provide start-up or expansion capital to microenterprises and small businesses in the Kentucky Appalachian Counties of Bell, Harlan, and Letcher. Established in 1997, through the national Rural Community College Initiative, PMCDC is a collaboration among Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College and six local banks. Certified as a U.S. Treasury Department Community Development Financial Institution, PMCDC has provided loan funds to 85 local businesses since 1997, creating or enhancing more than 300 jobs. PMCDC generally provides microloans to eligible businesses in amounts from $500 to $25,000. With board approval, the maximum amount may be increased up to $50,000 in special circumstances. Through its membership in the Appalachian Development Alliance, PMCDC may originate larger loan packages through collaboration with other development organizations serving the region.
