Workforce Solutions Career Craze Camps successful

Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College and its Workforce Solutions team have wrapped up Project STEM camps held at Whitesburg and on the Middlesboro campus. The camps, held for two days, were open to children ages 12-15 and featured sections on energy, environmental science, physics and mathematics. Over 125 children from Letcher and Bell counties took part in the camps that were coordinated by Sherri Clark and Dr. Vic Adams along with Deborah Young, Ron Brunty, Dr. Joe Johnson and Willie Blechschmidt. Students enjoyed the opportunity to build a bird house, observe a demonstration of robotics and the utilization of a drone for research through innovative technologies, and take a tour of an agriculture project and visit a raptor rehabilitation center. Additionally, students worked in teams to create catapults and delighted as they shot water-filled balloons across a campus lawn. The event was held in partnership between the Kentucky Lt. Governor s Office, the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and SKCTC s Whitesburg and Middlesboro campuses.
