Scholarship Golf Classic attracts large field of players

The Lillian Faye Simpson Scholarship Golf Classic was held recently at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course at Cumberland. Proceeds from the classic go toward creating and sustaining scholarships for deserving students to attend one of the SKCTC campuses located in Harlan, Bell and Letcher counties. The winning foursome in the 18-hole, best ball scramble format event was the Howard Heating/Cornett Insurance team that carded a 17 under par. The team was comprised of Pete Cornett, Jr., Pete Cornett, Sr., Andrew Forester and Mike Howard. They defeated Parkway Pharmacy in a scorecard playoff. The Parkway team featured Junior Watts, Todd Watts, Drew Chamberlain and Jon Simpson. Helping make the event possible was the generosity of corporate sponsors Kentucky Coal Academy and Gold Level sponsors: American Business Solutions, ARH and S&S Service.
