Bell County Summer Scrubs Camp
Summer Scrubs Camp is held in Bell County
The Southeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center (SE/AHEC) in conjunction with
Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College recently hosted a Summer Scrubs Camp
in Bell County. Sponsored by Middlesboro ARH, the Bell County Summer Scrubs camp was
held in order to provide local high school students the opportunity to experience
various jobs carried out by those in the health care industry. Each day of the camp,
students were given the opportunity to speak with, ask questions of and observe healthcare
professionals at work. Students were also given the chance to visit various departments
of the hospital while attending presentations and lectures given by the staff. Additionally,
students had the prospect to learn basic suturing techniques practicing their skills
on simulators. They also learned to draw blood using training modules. The final day
of the camp had students travelling to Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate to
tour the DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine. The camp was directed by Tiffany
B. Scott.
