50th anniversary community event held at SKCTC Harlan. Theater named in honor of Cawood and Helen Smith

During a community event held recently, the Harlan campus of Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College was the site of a celebration commemorating the college s 50 years of service to the area. Also, during the day-long event, the theater at the campus was named in honor of Cawood and Helen Smith. He, now deceased, was a prominent attorney, and she served many years on the SKCTC Board of Directors. The event, held April 14, featured an open house and program featuring testimonials offered by faculty and students who are enrolled or have attended the site which offers vocational and technical curricula. The campus was once known as Kentucky Tech but has been part of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System since 1998.
