The deadline to file for a degree and apply for spring graduation in the Registrar’s office is February 7th
Students are encouraged to apply for graduation the semester prior to when they are expected to complete their credential requirements. Applications turned in after the established deadline will automatically be moved to the applications for the next semester.

The 2014 Miss Southeast Scholarship Pageant scheduled for February 8th is now accepting applications
The event will be Saturday--February 8th @ 6:30 pm in the Godbey Appalachian Theatre. The winner will receive $1000 tuition scholarship and represent SKCTC at the Mt. Laurel festival in May. Pageant applications are available at any SKCTC admissions office. Deadline to enter January 31st .

The Microsoft Office 365 suite of software for PC, Mac and mobile phones is now FREE for all Southeast students.
All KCTCS students who are currently enrolled in a course are eligible to install the full version of Office 365 Pro Plus on up to 5 devices for free. This includes PC, Mac, Apple tablets and phones, and Android tablets and phones. The software will continue to work as long as you are enrolled in at least one class at a KCTCS college.

The Community Diversity Breakfast, sponsored by the Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College will be held Saturday, Jan. 18 at 9 a.m. at the Benham School House Inn. The event will feature an address by Dr. Shawn D. Long, chairman of Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

The seventh annual Winter Commencement and the Awarding of Degrees at SKCTC was held recently on Cumberland campus.
Graduates from each of the five Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College campuses participated in the ceremonies. Professor Larry Lafollette, college archivist and professor, delivered the keynote address.

Drenda Crider selected as new Director of External Education at Southeast and will oversee local tourism sites
Drenda Crider, who has established a lengthy and successful career in the hotel and leisure industry, has been chosen to lead several of Harlan County's notable tourist sites including the Benham School House Inn, the Kentucky Coal Mining Museum and the Portal 31 Mine Tour.

Holiday extravaganza coming to Southeast Cumberland campus, Dec. 6 and 7 with performance of The Nutcracker
Featuring a cast of 40 performers, the annual holiday spectacle: ‘A Christmas Dream, The Nutcracker,’ will be performed for the community on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 7 at 2:30 p.m. in the Edsel Godbey Appalachian Center located on the Cumberland campus.

Junior high school students were invited to the Middlesboro campus recently to take part Science Day event
Over 90 junior high pupils took part in the Middlesboro Science Day event organized by Southeast Faculty Joseph Johnson and Rajiv Singh, as well as Southeast Recruiter Kim Maynard. Students took a tour of campus and participated in science experiments and college information sessions.

Hughes, a professor at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, was informed recently that his work will appear in the popular Chicken Soup series and the book will be available for purchase at bookstores across the nation by the Christmas season.

The Glow Run 5-k Race, held in conjunction with the 49th Kingdom Come Swapping' Meetin,' attracted a field of 73 runners and walkers and raised over $1,300 for the SKCTC Scholarship Fund.

The Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College’s Sustainability Committee held its initial meeting Sept. 25 in the gallery of the Edsel Godbey Appalachian Gallery, Cumberland campus. The meeting involved a discussion of the book ‘Hot, Flat and Crowded’ by Thomas Friedman.

Southeast alumnus and Iraq veteran Jimmy Rose takes third place on NBC's hit show 'America's Got Talent'
Jimmy Rose, a 33-year-old singer from Pineville who sang from the heart about coal mining, took third on the Sept. 18 two-hour finale of ‘America’s Got Talent.’ A graduate of Pineville High School, Rose is an alumnus of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College.

Southeast sponsors local football games through Home Team Marketing Campaign; Donates $1700 in total
Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College was the sponsor of the recent Harlan County - Knox Central and Bell County - Middlesboro football games. The college made an $850 donation to each HCHS and BCHS athletic funds. Additionally, college recruitment staff and faculty were on hand to promote the college’s various programs.

Higher Ground 4: FogLights to be performed across Harlan County during the upcoming weeks
The theatrical effort, which includes drama, music and dance, with a focus on issues significant to the area, will be staged at the Eastern Kentucky Social Club at Lynch, the Pine Mountain Settlement School and at the old Evarts High School gymnasium.

Two students taking part in the Bluegrass China Exchange Program will be attending Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College. This is the third group of Chinese students to enroll at the Middlesboro campus. Students Zhou Haoran and Pan Yuwei will be enrolled for the 2013-14 school year and will be sophomores.

Harlan County Safety Days Mine Rescue Competition began Tuesday on the Grounds of Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College. SKCTC and the Kentucky Coal Academy helped sponsor the mine rescue contest, which is organized by The Cumberland Tourist Commission.

The Southeast Scholars program works to identify students in the sixth grade and provides programming through their senior year of high school. If students complete the program, they are eligible for assistance with tuition and books to attend Southeast.

This summer, Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College, with support from ArtPlace and the Robert E. Frazier Foundation, will be offering two courses in the arts. Scholarships covering the full cost of tuition for the course as well as cash stipends are available for a limited number of qualified students.

The 48th commencement and awarding of credentials was held May 10 on the Cumberland campus
The 48th commencement and awarding of credentials was held May 10 on the Cumberland campus of Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College with over 300 students receiving degrees, certificates and diplomas. The event was held beneath a 200-foot by 120-foot tent as hundreds of spectators paid tribute to the graduates who represented each of the SKCTC five campuses.

Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College staged its seventh annual Mock Disaster Drill recently on the Cumberland campus. Some 150 first responders and students, enrolled in the Southeast nursing program, participated.

The Cumberland, Harlan, Middlesboro, Pineville and Whitesburg campuses will be holding their annual Spring Fling event with free food and drink provided to students and faculty. Middlesboro and Pineville will hold their event April 22nd, Harlan April 23rd, while Cumberland campus will hold theirs on April 24th and Whitesburg on April 18th.

Southeast officially honored at the Aspen Institute Prize for Community College Excellence ceremony
Dr. W. Bruce Ayers, president of Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College along with other finalists in the 2013 Aspen Institute Prize for Community College Excellence, displayed awards received during a ceremony March 19 in Washington, D.C. Southeast was chosen as one of the top ten community colleges in the nation from a field of over 1,000 colleges.
